  • Ben Stiller took part in a great short when he hosted SNL a few years back. Entitled “The H Is O,” it stars Stiller as a douche club fly at a hipster joint in NYC. He claims to his buddies to be able to pick anybody up in three lines or less. This of course results in an attempt at swooping Glenn Frey from the Eagles, played by Will Ferrell. Just watch…

Return to the Land of the Lost

So, even with a billion talented people moving there daily, Hollywood still can’t seem to come up with an original idea. Over the past few years, they’ve rehashed, remade and regurgitated just about every work of Asian cinema, silver screen classic and ’70s/’80s TV show imaginable (and a few that weren’t). That being said, I’m pretty excited about the Land of the Lost film. I used to crack out on that stuff as a kid, mainly because of the dinosaurs, but I think I was also attracted to the whacked out story lines and psychedelic imagery. The Sid & Mary Krofft Saturday morning TV show had trippy effects and weirder costumes and monoliths (they called them “pylons”) that shot super crazy mojo shit into your mind. The original story featured Rick Marshall and his two children–out for a routine expedition–who get transported to a zany prehistoric land via “The greatest earthquake ever known,” but the film, which will star Will Ferrell, seems like it will do something different. According to TVSquad.com:

The big screen version of the film will cast Ferrell as a disgraced paleontologist who ends up in the prehistoric land with his assistant and a tour guide.

Kind of a downer, but this does give me some hope:

The original creators of the series, ’70s TV legends Sid and Marty Krofft are on board with the film and have expressed excitement over the script. “What they did is keep the integrity of the show,” said Marty Krofft “but they made it very funny for Will. The adventure is all there. There are going to be 50 Sleestaks!”

Land of the Lost will be directed by Brad Silberling who was at the helm for the Lemony Snicket movie. I hope it’s fun at least. But I doubt it’ll be as fun as this.
