Van’s Warped Tour Contest

It’s summer.  In Chico, that means we get drunk, go down to the olde’ swimmin hole and then get engulfed in the current mess of smoke caused by the 4 billion fires in Northern California.  At the Synthesis, it means that we have too much cool shit laying around, so we’re giving stuff away.

Our Warped Tour/ Guitar Hero contest has been birthed (it’s a girl!) and now you need to adopt that shit.  We’ve got sick band’s signatures all over this thing, and if we were smart we would throw this on Ebay and spend the money on hookers and beer… but we’re not.  How do you with this fine piece of gaming history?  We’ll I would start by watching the video below, then subscribing to our YouTube channel and leaving us a message telling us how you want it more the Cournty Love was her soul back (who names a baby girl Francis Bean, anyways?!).   Here’s Alex from Cobra Starship reppin it.

Can’t really say I blame him though:

Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travis McCoy was arrested last night in St. Louis on one charge of third-degree assault. The punk-hop group had just finished the first song of their Warped Tour set, “Peace Sign,” when a black audience member near the front row called the New York-based singer a “fucking ignorant nigger.”

McCoy calmly asked the man, “What did you just call me?” As security was removing him from the crowd, the frontman reached down and broke his microphone over the man’s head. McCoy immediately apologized for his reaction and said it wasn’t representative of him as a person. “I’m sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone,” said McCoy. The audience cheered as the man in question was carried away by security. Local police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time. McCoy was arrested onstage at the end of his set. He was released early this morning on $500 bond.

This video was shot immediately following the beat down:

Someone call Al Sharpton. Or at least Pete Wentz. Or maybe both.

  • New This Week on Synthesis.net

So I just got done slapping a bunch of new features up on the frontpage, and since this blog seems to be made of FAIL today maybe you should try your luck over there. Check out new interviews with Todd Snider, Spinto Band, Bryn Loosely of Buffalo Creek and even one of my own shitty bands. West by SwanOf course, they’re not as exciting as Video Matt’s Warped Tour interviews but hey, what is?

  • Angels and Airwaves Interview on Synthesis.net

In case you couldn’t tell from the entire Digital Magazine we dedicated to his various creative pursuits, we here at Synthesis have a giant boner for Tom DeLonge, frontman for Angels and Airwaves and formerly Blink-182. Our most recent stroking comes courtesy of Video Matt who caught up with Tom and his bandmate Matt Wachter at the San Francisco date of the Warped Tour. If I don’t get some free Macbeth shoes pretty soon I’m gonna be pissed. Size 10.5. Make it happen.

  • As if it wasn’t enough that Protest the Hero frontman Rody Walker came to Chico a month or so back and rocked an acoustic jam in Managing Editor Ryan Prado’s apartment, posed some tough questions for Paramore and sat down for his own Q&A sesh with Video Matt, he’s now acting as a roving correspondent for Synthesis.net at this year’s Warped Tour. Check out his interview with From First to Last above, and subscribe to our stupid YouTube channel so we can spam you with our shit ALL DAY!

As if Against Me!, All That Remains, Anberlin, Angels and Airwaves, As I Lay Dying, Bouncing Souls, Cobra Starship, Every Time I Die, From First to Last, GBH, Gym Class Heroes, Jack’s Mannequin, Motion City Soundtrack, Norma Jean, Paramore, Pennywise, Reel Big Fish, Relient K, Rise Against, Say Anything, Story of the Year, Street Dogs, The Academy Is…, The All-American Rejects, The Bronx, The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Vandals weren’t enough, it was announced today that Matisyahu and Chiodos will both be joining the mainstage of the 2008 Warped Tour for a limited number of dates:

The VANS WARPED TOUR 2008 Presented By AT&T has announced two new additions for a portion of this summer’s trek. Matisyahu will join the tour for the July 9 (Atlanta), July 10 (Orlando), July 11 (Tampa) and the July 13 (Jacksonville) shows. Also look for Chiodos to perform a one-night-only show on July 18 in Detroit at Comerica Park.

“I’m really glad this opportunity came up with Matisyahu,” notes tour founder Kevin Lyman. “He’s an artist I’ve always felt would be an amazing addition to the line up, so I’m excited to have him finally join us for a bit. It’s always great to have a band like Chiodos–who’s been a part of the Warped family since the beginning of their careers–want to come back after all their success to spend a day with us.”

If you dig Chiodos but don’t live in Detroit fret not, you can check out a couple dope videos of the band live from this year’s SXSW festival on the Synthesis YouTube page, along with more than a couple interviews and rap sessions with various members of the band. We’re here for you, man.
