Anyone looking for proof of how bad the California housing crunch need look no further than San Diego’s Michael Crews Development who have started offering a Buy-One-Get-One-Free deal on houses:
Michael Crews Development is offering new, 2000-square foot cityscape row-homes worth $400,000 in Escondido for free — if you buy one Royal View Estate home in San Pasqual Valley starting at $1.6 million.
“You know it’s a straight-up legit deal; no prices have been increased, there are no hidden costs. Michael is just giving away a free home for people that buy at Royal View,” said Berry.
“We thought, ‘Why does it just have to be on Pop Tarts and restaurants? Why not buy one home, get one free,’”
Fuck it.

There was a huge drug bust at San Diego State today. Nearly 100 people arrested for selling drugs in “Operation Sudden Fall”. 75 of them were students, more than a few of them studying for a degree in criminal justice and homeland security. The DEA infiltrated seven frats, where students regularly bought coke from frequently enough for one of the Theta Chi bros to send out mass text messages to his “faithful” customers advertising a sale on cocaine.
Check out the confiscated items list: four pounds of cocaine, 50 pounds of marijuana and 350 ecstasy pills. Authorities also confiscated a shotgun, three semiautomatic pistols and $60,000.
DAMN! Kids these days!

I saw this while perusing the Mesh blog, and given that I’ve been playing Pinback’s “Good To Sea” (off their last album, Autum of the Seraphs) on repeat, I thought I’d share this hilarious (and loving) spoof of Pinback, made by this Chicago dude.
If you love Pinback like I do, you’ll dig this. if you have no idea what a Pinback is, educate.

Liars is kinda hit or miss for me, but I really dug that Brocken Witch album. However, I’ve heard their live shows are something of a spectacle. The group recently wrapped up an arena tour in support of Interpol and Liars frontman Angus Andrew described the experience as follows:
“When we last toured the States it was quite royally. Interpol laid out a magic carpet ride that took us from one historic venue to another. The whole experience was a mind-blowing orgy of music and memories.”
Memories, dude. The New York Times was similarly stoked on the experience.
“[Liars] worked the Garden stage like rock stars… with Andrew strutting and gesticulating in a white suit and a big, relentless beat, Liars sounded at home as arena-rock.”
For the Liars US tour, they’ll be cramming that big arena energy into smaller venues, thereby throwing it all up in your face. The group will stop at Slim’s in San Francisco, The Casbah in San Diego (great venue, by the way), Metro in Chicago and Warsaw in Brooklyn on their jaunt across the US. Los Angeles band No Age will be in support. Dates after the jump. (more…)
