The Romantics, that 80’s band that most people probably either don’t remember or never knew have filed a federal lawsuit against Activision becuase of a “soundalike recording of its 1980 hit What I Like About You on Guitar Hero,”
The song is one of about 30 songs featured on “Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the ’80s.” The band also is seeking an injunction that could take the best-selling game off store shelves - which would be both completely lame and a crime against humanity.
Here’s the part that doesn’t make too much sense - they’re not making a copyright claim. The band’s attorneys told the Detroit Free Press that Activision properly secured permission to use “What I Like About You,” allowing it to record a cover version. So what’s the problem right? They’re saying that “by creating an imitation so much like the Romantics’ original, the California-based company infringed on the group’s rights to its own likeness”.
WTF?

Like most songs by The Hives, I have absolutely no idea what “Tick Tick Boom” is all about. Love Pelle Almqvist’s voice, but definitely think his lyrics need a bit of work. But whatever, I guess not everyone needs to be a Leonard Cohen. Actions speak louder than words anyway, and in their video for “tick Tick Boom” they are giants, they fuck the shit out of art and make big explosions and funny faces. Their new album, The Black and White Album, hits US shores Tuesday November 13th.

Cure for cancer? Teleportation device? Dan Taylor limited edition iPod equipped with the entire Saves The Day catalog pre-installed?
Fuck no! Gibson guitars has invented a system of advanced electronics that tune the guitar for you! GAH!
Strait up, this is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard. The system uses piezo pickups to analyze the wavelengths, then transmits the signal wirelessly to the tuning pegs which have small motors in them.
I know what you’re thinking, “But Dallas, what about when your playing? How does it know when to stop tuning and start rocking?” Well, if you quit your bitchen’ I would tell you about it. The guitars have a push/ pull pot installed into the volume knob. It also claims that you can hit all 6 strings and the guitar will be in tune in a couple of seconds.
Your saying, “But Dallas, the wireless signals will cause on stage interference!” STFU! They’ve covered it!
As the strings are played, the Powertune processor compares their actual frequencies with the desired notes and sends instructions–tighten the string this much, loosen the string by that much–to tuning pegs equipped with strong, tiny servo motors mounted on the back of the guitar’s head. Because onstage interference could potentially degrade a wireless signal, the system uses the strings themselves to send the signal.
Apparently the system will start being integrated into their flagship models soon. More details to come, I’ll hook you up with em baby.
