I saw this while perusing the Mesh blog, and given that I’ve been playing Pinback’s “Good To Sea” (off their last album, Autum of the Seraphs) on repeat, I thought I’d share this hilarious (and loving) spoof of Pinback, made by this Chicago dude.
If you love Pinback like I do, you’ll dig this. if you have no idea what a Pinback is, educate.
Known mainly as being the drummer for every band in Chico for awhile, Jake Sprecher starting interning at the Synthesis for shits and giggles after realizing that if you play in more than one band in Chico you are legally obligated to work at either Woodstock’s Pizza or the Synthesis, or in his case, both. After proving his mettle by taking on all the lame interviews that no one else wanted to do, like Pete Best and Five Finger Death Punch, we felt really bad for him after his Pinback interview for Issue 9 of the Synthesis Digital got rescheduled like 234 times and decided that we would actually start paying him to do all the shit that no one else wanted to do. So now he’s here most days of the week stacking ultimate fame, while his nights are spent fronting the fucking bad ass Candy Apple who will be on tour next month. Check them out on the Space or in one of the following cities and tell Jake to hurry back, because there’s always a bunch of shitty bands that need so coverage BRO!
So while laying in bed in a semi-delusional state on Monday morning (I was sick) something snapped me back into reality. It was an unmistakable sound: Pinback, live. But I was listening to…NPR…didn’t make any sense. Since when does NPR appeal to me and my sensibilities so much?
Then the thought hit me: fuck, I’m getting to be an old liberal. Oh holy hell….
Whatever, I guess I’m cool with it, I just need to get some gray sweatervests and a beige turtle neck and I’ll be set. At least I’ll have my fucking live Pinback.
We haven’t mentioned our good friends at The Sword in a while, but like a dragon awakening from an eon-long slumber, the stoner rock quartet is ready to once again ravage the countryside. The Sword is taking a short break from writing their new record to play The Wall of Sound Festival along with Explosions in the Sky, Midlake, Pinback, Ghostland Observatory and many others. If you’re in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex on Sept. 22nd (tomorrow!), don’t pass this up. 40 bands on three stages for just $30. Tickets available here
