A few weeks ago I received a package in the mail from the late-night-mostly-animated-short-attention span titans [adult swim] that contained, among other things, a screening copy of one of their latest programs, Superjail!.

The premise of Sueprjail! is pretty simple: Imagine a whimsical, magical prison run by a Willy Wonka facsimile (more Gene Wilder than Johnny Depp) and policed by a transgender super cop. Stabbings and jail-rapes are run-of-the mill in a world where, to boost morale, the Warden constructs a prison night club, or awakens a mythological Aztec/Mayan-esque God-warrior through a gladiator bloodsport match. Throw in a love story (or rather, a transgendered, unrequited prison love story), a circular beginning/end theme where a crime is committed, the criminal is dropped into Superjail, eventually escapes and is caught in the beginning of the next episode, and plenty of non sequiturs and blood-curdling violence in between and you’ve got a fine comedy cartoon in the tradition of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies.

Superjail! shows late nights Sunday and Monday on [adult swim].

Next on my [adult swim] list is a slight departure from their usual visual-entertainment fare. Beginning October 20th, African Swim, a compilation album of South African hip-hop artists will be available for free download from adultswim.com.

Hip-hop culture has long been included in the [adult swim] world, and African Swim, the latest in Williams Street Records‘ free download series, features some of the artists tearing up the Johannesberg hip-hop scene. The release will coincide with Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2, a first person shooter set in Africa.

For Relaxing Times, Make It Suntory Time

Got in the mail today, a delightful package from the equally delightful people at Tullamore Dew, makers of one of the finer Irish Whiskeys around and one of the top shelf favorites over at Duffy’s (so you know it’s legit). Alongside a couple samplers of the Dew, and a few other spirits distributed by parent company Skyy Spirits LLC (as in the vodka), was perhaps one of my new favorite libations: the 18-year Suntory single-malt “Yamakazi.” Having had the pleasure of sampling a variety of quality aged whiskeys (as well as more than a few shitty, young whiskeys) I have to say, that Bill Murray was right, man. For relaxing times, you really should make it Suntory Time.

Now please excuse me while I responsibly enjoy my treasure chest of executive booze. I’m looking forward to trying the new Tullamore Dew 10-year Old coming this winter, information on which you can find after the fold…after all, there’s no such thing as “free booze”: (more…)

  • Like Books?

This is a pretty cool Web site that lets users exchange and trade books. I know I have TONS of books taking up space in my room that I won’t ever read again and just create even more clutter. This is the perfect solution if you like reading! Which you should if you’re reading our amazing blog site!

PLUS the name is good: Book Mooch. I enjoy mooching consistently, especially food and drinks, but books are good too! Give books away and get books you want = simple. It’s easy to become a member and FREE. And it’s fun to get stuff in the mail! There’s only 4 easy steps:

    1) Type in the books you want to give away.

    2) Receive requests from other people for your books.

    3) Mail your books and get points!

    4) Ask for books from others using your points.

A woman in Berlin, Germany claimed a phobia of official letters during her appeal to the authorities’ decision to cut off her child support benefits. The court ruled against her.

The woman was sent a letter in May of 2007 asking her to provide evidence to support continued payments for her daughter. She did not open the letter and failed to respond. Money was cut off in July of 2007 and she was given a month limit to appeal. She finally replied with the requested documents in September and her appeal was thrown out for being too late. Her appeals continue to be rejected.

She then gave her excuse that she has a phobia of official correspondence. What I want to know is who doesn’t? Any official letters in my mailbox are pretty much always scary to open. Especially when they have a bigass letterhead and it’s only to be opened by ME. Dun dun dun… who likes it when the contents are bills or court issued documents or bank statements? I really don’t know. I guess she said she was too ashamed to go through psychological treatment and that’s why she received mail and just threw it in a pile. Crazy lady.
