Ricin Found in Las Vegas Hotel

Rican was found at the Extended Stay America Hotel late Thursday night.
Extended Stay America Hotel
The Extended Stay America Hotel looks like kind of a dump - it’s off the strip in Vegas features newly renovated rooms and valley views (and apparently last night a neighbor mixing ricin).

Three hotel employees and one hotel guest were taken to the hospital due to possible exposure. Ricin as small as a pinhead can be deadly.

Las Vegas Metro Homeland Security Capt. Joe Lombardo said “Ricin is very serious. Something as small as the size of a pin can be deadly. An individual citizen, other than being involved in cancer research or cancer prevention, would not have any legal means or proper means to have it” .

Ricin is a powerful poison made from Castor Beans. According to the CDC it has some “legitimate medical uses” but it’s also considered a potential terrorist weapon. Only a tiny amount is needed to kill a person and many people can be killed with a large amount.

Homeland Security officials and the FBI are investigating along with the Las Vegas police but officials do not believe it is related to terrorism. Lovely.

MACWORLD 2008 CHAPTER 2

ADULT ENTERTAINMENT EXPO 2008 CHAPTER 1

If You Like to Read About Band Drama….

img_0358.jpg

I don’t know if any of you have ever heard a person in a successful, touring band say what a tough life they have, how it’s hard to adjust to being home and thought to yourself, what a fucking asshole, it must be really hard to be making money and playing shows for tons of people every night. Well, it is. Granted, it’s definitely one of the best jobs ever, you get to see so many different things and even when you’re not in the band, just with them, it’s amazing to see people that love to come to shows and watch music. But I sometimes wonder what I’ve done to myself. Why have I chosen a career path that calls for me to be gone nine months out of the year, put my personal life on hold and risk my health and sanity? The best answer to that question is really answered best with another question. Why would I not do this? In the coming eight weeks I will be making my way across the country in a tour bus with some of my best friends, and some soon to be new friends, and will be documenting as much as humanly possible here. Come to a show, hang out with us, join in on one of the many after show dance parties and support touring bands, gas is damned expensive now.

Shithead celebrity gossip sites are blowing loads all over their own chesticles over this weekend’s big news: Kevin Federline and Paris Hilton apparently hooking it up in Las Vegas. Here’s hoping there will be a tape soon! Lord knows I haven’t seen Paris Hilton’s vagina NEARLY enough times. Not saying I wouldn’t still hit it, because I would. I’m just saying that Paris Hilton’s genitalia have become officially fap-proof. For some tri-tip smuggling action, take the leap and you’ll see what I mean… [OMGGG NSFW!!1] (more…)

Most well known for howling out the anthemic pop-metal chorus of Quiet Riot’s biggest hit “Cum on Feel the Noize,” Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, Nov. 25th.

Though the group is seen as something of a footnote in music history, Quiet Riot is one of the group’s that helped popularize the sound that made group’s like Poison and Motley Crue into gluttonous rock gods.

DuBrow was unmarried and never had children. His cause of death, according to Nevada’s Clark County Coroner Samantha Charles, is still under investigation. More info here at NYTimes.com.

Since I like it when people send me free stuff, especially cool free stuff, I’d like to extend thanks to Boost Mobile who sent along a copy of Saber’s Mad Society, a book collecting the LA-based artists graffiti and more conventional oil paintings. Printed on slick paper, this 168-page soft-bound book is packed full of big colorful images.

Saber: Mad Society is a part of Boost Mobile’s Boosted Artist Content Collaboration, which also features MadSteez, Revok, Retna and Claw Money. Boosted, their “new directional lifestyle brand” (if someone out there works in marketing, I require a translation) will be on preview at the Spring 2008 MAGIC Trade Show in Vegas.
