As a rule, I don’t believe in guilty music pleasures. If you like a song/album/what have you, I don’t see what you should feel guilty about. Still, listening to Shaggy makes my inner music snob–who’s usually buried deep in my psyche–cringe a little. I blame my catholic upbringing. I’m not a big fan of club music or pop reggae or stuff that makes people happy, but his music gets all up in my brain and I can’t flush it out of there.
Nov. 13th saw the release of Shaggy’s latest album, Intoxication, and it certainly lives up to its name. You can stream it at Indie911.com. “Bonafide Girl” with longtime protege Rik Rok, “More Woman” and “What’s Love” featuring Akon are all banging. I’ve been listening to it all day, and, whether my coworkers know it or not, my private desk party has been raging. You’re all invited, just leave your shame at the door.
