Jill Price is 42 and can remember every tiny detail of her life since she was 14. Give her a random date and she’ll tell you not only what day of the week it was, but everything she did since she woke up. Some call it a gift, she calls it a curse.
“I also recall every bad decision, insult and excruciating embarrassment. Over the years it has eaten me up. It has kind of paralysed me.”
Doctors had to come up with a name for this rare medical miracle: hyperthymestic syndrome from the Greek thymesis, for remembering, and hyper, meaning well above normal. She blames her vivid memories for the years of depression she’s suffered. She has trouble sleeping, and on top of it all she can’t resist collecting TV Guides and play programs. WEIRD!
