As announced last Friday, the world’s most irresponsibly deadly animated metal band, Dethklok, will be hitting the road starting June 2nd to annihilate the masses in real time. This is of course exciting in and of itself. But in addition, the barbaric five piece has been busy sharpening their guitar headstocks and Flying V tail fins for decapitations/impalings on the continuation of their second season on [adult swim], which will premier Sunday, May 18th at the only time imaginable (midnight). This follows up a wildly successful start:

In fall 2007, a real-life version of Dethklok, led by co-creator Brendon Small, embarked on a national tour, playing at college campuses around the United States. The college tour heralded the release of the hugely successful album The Dethalbum. The album features songs written and performed by Small from the first season of Metalocalypse, and it debuted at #21 on the Billboard Top 200 as the highest-charting death metal album of all time. Dethklok will embark on its second nationwide tour this summer when Adult Swim Presents Metalocalype’s Dethklok kicks-off on June 2 and travels to 28 cities.

Biggest Tech Break #2

So last month I posted about Gibson Guitar’s self tuning system. Finally, a teaser/demo video has been put togeter to show us what it’s capable of. I’m not very sure how guitar purists are going to take it, but I know as soon as this becomes a little cheaper I’mma sell my car for one.
For more info, check here.

  • Biggest Tech Break In The Last 30 Years

Cure for cancer? Teleportation device? Dan Taylor limited edition iPod equipped with the entire Saves The Day catalog pre-installed?

Fuck no! Gibson guitars has invented a system of advanced electronics that tune the guitar for you! GAH!
Strait up, this is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard. The system uses piezo pickups to analyze the wavelengths, then transmits the signal wirelessly to the tuning pegs which have small motors in them.
I know what you’re thinking, “But Dallas, what about when your playing? How does it know when to stop tuning and start rocking?” Well, if you quit your bitchen’ I would tell you about it. The guitars have a push/ pull pot installed into the volume knob. It also claims that you can hit all 6 strings and the guitar will be in tune in a couple of seconds.
Your saying, “But Dallas, the wireless signals will cause on stage interference!” STFU! They’ve covered it!

As the strings are played, the Powertune processor compares their actual frequencies with the desired notes and sends instructions–tighten the string this much, loosen the string by that much–to tuning pegs equipped with strong, tiny servo motors mounted on the back of the guitar’s head. Because onstage interference could potentially degrade a wireless signal, the system uses the strings themselves to send the signal.

Apparently the system will start being integrated into their flagship models soon. More details to come, I’ll hook you up with em baby.

  • hates the world...seriously

Anyone who read my last post about this knows exactly how I feel about stolen band gear and what I think should happen to the culprits. Jodi Hates The World, whose music I didn’t really like at first, but has since grown on me (think Jane’s Addiction meets the Smashing Pumpkins), recently got their tour van stolen in Oakland, CA. If you frequent pawn shops and seedy neighborhoods, be on the lookout for this stuff:

1979 Natural Finish Gibson “The Paul”

Large Chip in headstock. Charlie Brown decal on body..if you look close at the headstock you can see where someone had placed some little heart stickers under the Gibson logo….lots of wear just under the pickups, and where your arm would rest on top of the body…..again, pretty hard to miss…
