Yvonne Hair and Nails in northern Virginia has created quite the splash with fish pedicures. WTF is a fish pedicure? It’s when you put your feet in a warm bath with “doctor fish” better known as garra rufa. The fish were originally used in Turkey and have become trendy in some Asian countries. John Ho, co-owner of Yvonne Hair and Nails, decided to give it a go despite the typical American attitude to shun foreign cultural methods of hygiene. But a few of his customers soon became addicted. Apparently, the fish have become accustomed to eating pretty much anything including your toe jam because there isn’t much life supported by the hot water environment that the fish normally live in. The fish are toothless, so they aren’t able to bite into living skin, but they do eat the dead cells of your feet for $35 for 15 minutes or $50 for 30 minutes. Interesting and kinda gross!!
