If you’ve seen Donnie Darko more than ten times and think that, besides the latest Calexico record, new music has nothing to offer you, you may be tickled by the announcement of the upcoming Tindersticks North American tour dates.
To me, the Tindersticks have always sounded like the red wine-and-pills combination of Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen. But what do I know. Check out a fan page or two and thank me later.
TINDERSTICKS PLAY RARE LIVE PERFORMANCES IN NORTH AMERICA IN SUPPORT OF THE HUNGRY SAW
Following their reformation and the release of new Constellation album The Hungry Saw in 2008, we are pleased to announce legendary UK band Tindersticks will be bringing their inimitable sound and songcraft to North American stages for the first time in over five years. Led by the voice and lyricism of Stuart Staples, Tindersticks have always expertly conjured complex emotions and double-edged narratives through a sultry, swirling, finely orchestrated music that is gently uplifting, beautifully arranged, and shot through with dark tension.

It’s shaping up to be a big 20th anniversary from Chicago alternative rock icons Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and whoever the fuck else Billy hired to be in the band now, are going out on the road, premiering a song on Guitar Hero, releasing a DVD, and hopefully rekindling some fanships from those of us who think it’s been bleak ever since Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Several of their tour stops include 2-night stints where no songs will be repeated.
“Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington, Boston, Kansas City and Los Angeles. With such a vast repertoire, the Pumpkins are coming prepared with completely different set lists in each of the multi-night engagements with no songs being repeated over the course of the two night run. Night #1 is being called “Black Sunshine,” while night #2 will be dubbed “White Crosses.” A special two-night ticket bundle will be available for all multi-night engagements.”
So I take it they’re not doing “White Crosses” in the deep south? Smart move there, baldy.

Though Sherwood were a whole lot cooler when that short Mexican looking guy was in the band, they are nevertheless still the homies, and they’ve been representing NorCal and MidCal all over the world as of lately, touring Europe, Asia and everywhere else their RV takes them, which will soon include their recently announced Fall headlining tour. Here’s the release, replete with dates, openers and hyperbole. Word of warning though, don’t play dice with Joe Greenetz. He picks that shit up like a motherfucker:
GOLDRUSH! - A Sherwood tour this October meant for seeing friends, polishing old finds, and mining new ones.
SONGS! - Between touring abroad and playing festivals in North America, the Sherwood lads have begun writing songs for a new album slated for 2009.
DELUXE! - This fall will also see the release of Sing But Keep Going [Deluxe Edition], Sherwood’s first album repackaged with 4 previously unreleased songs.
TOUR! – Thus with songs both old and new in mind, the guys are eager to catch up with friends and see what you all think. That means select dates on the west coast this October with support from The Pink Spiders, The Summer Set, Barcelona, and The Reign Of Kindo:
