Designer Yves Saint Laurent Dies

The fashion world is mourning the death of iconic Paris designer, Yves Saint Laurent. He defined how modern women dressed with his elegant styles. Saint Laurent died following a long-term illness at 71. He is said to be the last of a legendary generation of designers, including Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, who made Paris the fashion capital of the world.

Saint Laurent was named most influential and enduring designer of his time in the world of haute couture. He was also able to touch every part of the fashion industry with his iconic pieces and by delivering this high level of dress to the masses. He was recognized at the young age of 17 for a cocktail dress design. Saint Laurent then enrolled in school for a short period of time and was immediately hired by Dior. When Dior died, Saint Laurent was put in charge of the House of Dior at 21.

He empowered women and gave them confidence. He left his mark in the world of fashion forever and will be missed.

Brigitte Bardot Guilty

Film legend Brigitte Bardot was convicted in Paris, France today for racial hatred and provoking discrimination because she wrote that Muslims are responsible for destroying France. A French anti-racism group, MRAP,  filed a suit against Bardot for a letter she sent to Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy - who is now the president.  She explained her distress due to Muslim Aid el-Kebir Bardot who celebrated by slaughtering and eating sheep.

Bardot is an animal rights activist and feels she should be able to voice her opinion but French anti-racism laws do not allow discrimination on religious/racial grounds. She was ordered to pay $23,325 fine to the Paris court and $1,555 in damages to MRAP. Bardot’s lawyer said there is a possibility of appealing the case but Bardot has been convicted four times prior to this case for racial hatred.

Bardot will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights.

  • Hearing all this BS about a Roger Clemens / Mindy McCready tryst amidst his defamation of character suit against former trainer McNamee, I realized that I have never sat down and watched a baseball game in a decade, and that I have never listened to one of Mindy McCready’s songs. So here’s to rectifying the latter.

Yeah… It’s fair to say that I like Nashville’s Pop Radio sensations as much as I like watching baseball. That is, this much:

I Love baseball and Country Music

Which I guess makes me Un-American. C’est la vie.

Antoine de Saint Exupery, the author of what is probably one of the greatest books of all time (despite the fact that it’s basically a cartoon) The Little Prince, disappeared in 1944 while flying a reconnaissance during World War II. Though wreckage of his plane was found in 2004, the circumstances surrounding his apparent death were still mysterious, until now. A former pilot for the German Luftwaffe named Horst Rippert believes he may have shot down Exupery on July 31st, 1944 above France.

French newspaper Le Figaro has published extracts of a book in which the former Messerschmitt pilot describes spotting a twin-tailed Lightning P-38 plane flying below him. He went in pursuit and shot him down.

“I didn’t see the pilot and even so, it would have been impossible for me to know that it was Saint-Exupery. I hoped and I still hope it wasn’t him,” he said.

Rippert chose to remain silent all these years out of fear the press would lambaste him for killing the author of one of France, and Europe’s, most beloved works:

“He feels guilty and very, very sorry about it. He was very scared that the cheap press would massacre him.”

In the published extracts, Mr Rippert describes being a fan of de Saint-Exupery’s work. “In our youth, at school, we had all read him. We loved his books,” he said

For a little contemporary context, imagine you’re a fighter pilot and you find out the jet you just shot down was being flown by Shel Silverstein? I mean, I guess you probably wouldn’t feel that bad since Shel Silverstein’s already dead, but hey, you get the point? Maybe not. Fuck it. If you haven’t read it yet, stop whatever you’re doing and read The Little Prince. And The Giving Tree.

  • Why France is Made of WIN

    aids_scorpion.jpg

Besides just making up fries, roasts, kisses and ticklers, the French also make badass AIDS ads with dudes fucking scorpions and bitches getting their boxed mowed by spiders.

France also has nuclear weapons, thus qualifying them to costar in the funniest YouTube clip I’ve seen since lunch:
