Portugal. The Man Streams New Album

This band fucking rocks. Not only are they solid musicians and a great live act, but somehow they were kind enough to let us film them in a private acoustic session (see video). Now the boys are about to drop a new album on us, entitled Censored Colors, and they’ve decided to be super nice and stream the entire thing on their myspace. What do I think about it? Haven’t listened, but I’ll put some cold hard cash it’s better than Metallica’s Death Magnetic.

Here’s And I off the new CD.

  • …with a coffin inside of it! Death Magnetic is in stores September 12th.

After perusing what’s on their site, I can safely relay that the lyrics to “Cyanide” are pretty stupid. But after all, it wouldn’t be a Metallica record without juvenile lyrics. I can still imagine James Hetfield scribbling them on a 3-ring notebook with skulls and lightning bolts drawn in the margins. Rhodes scholar he ain’t…. All said, however, Death Magnetic seems to be a step in the right direction for a band who’s been off course for over a decade.

    Happy hunting, metalheads.

  • New Metallica Music Video

I’m not sure how I’m feeling about the new Metallica songs.  Sure, they’re lightyears beyond St. Anger, but thats besides the point.  If you’re eating a bad sandwich, and someone says it’s a ton better than eating shit, that’s not saying much… amiright?

2 positives are that Lars replaced that horrid sounding snare drum from St. Anger with something a little better, and that Hammett is back to playing screaming leads. Besides that, nothing too special. Oh, the video is long, drawn out and has something to do with war, but I got distracted at about 4 minutes deep… see if you can top my record.

  • Metallica’s Death Magnetic

Apparently Metallica’s forthcoming new Rick Rubin-produced full-length will be titled Death Magnetic:

Last week, a mysterious image popped up on Metallica’s Web site — an image that continued to morph over the next few days. It began June 9 with just two letters, D and C, in the middle of four sideways Metallica M’s arranged to look like magnetic rays. Each day, more letters were added. Because the band had promised it would soon divulge the title of its forthcoming album (due in stores this fall), several fans accurately surmised that the image would eventually reveal the LP’s name. Some guessed the title would be Magnetica. On Saturday, just before the band’s set at Bonnaroo, the image changed for the last time, providing fans with the answer they’d been waiting for. It seems that Metallica have named their next record Death Magnetic.
