Perez Hilton Starting New Label

Blogger Perez Hilton wants to use his “talents” to start a new record label and save the music industry. His first task will be to do whatever it takes to revive the CD. His ideas for doing so include lowering prices of CD’s to something like five dollars and creating large partnerships with worldwide companies. His main goal is to get the public to start purchasing music again. With all the easy ways to get free music and the availability of downloads I wonder if his ideas will take off?

He wants to follow in the footsteps of Apple, Inc. creating popularity for small-time bands and artists featured on their commercials, like Feist. His partnership ideas include teaming with such large corporations as Wal-Mart and Target. I’m not so sure how these corporations will feel about partnering with an obnoxious individual who got his name from socialite Paris Hilton.

Here you go. In case you’re rubbing your hands in anticipation of running out to your local mom & pop record shop tomorrow and buying records (…damn, what fucking century do I live in?) here’s a semi-complete list of albums coming out.

Of course, Now That’s What I Call Music Volume 27 will undoubtedly do better than 99% of the albums coming out tomorrow (and for the rest of the month for that matter), because most of the record buying public’s taste in music hasn’t quite outgrown their acne.
I hate “Music”
(the perfect bat mitzva gift right there)

But by far the best title of the day is is Elvis Presley, He Touched Me. I wish it read “Elvis Presley: He Touched Me” as in an autobiographical tell-all by one of his groupies. I would totally read that. Sadly, it’s just gospel music.

  • Yep, apparently so. I guess myself and the rest of the civilized world hadn’t really taken much notice. Well, now I guess Rhapsody is swallowing up their flimsy business in hopes of consolidating a losing venture.

    Spin City:

“Our partnership with Rhapsody, the acquisition of FoxyTunes and the release of the web-based Yahoo! Media Player moves Yahoo! Music closer to our goal of enabling users to play all of the music on the Web,” said Yahoo’s vice president of video and media applications, Ian Rogers. “But, it doesn’t end there. Yahoo Music will continue to innovate and forge new ways to marry music content with the rich content of the Internet[s].”

I’m sure this has nothing to do with Microsoft’s looming shadow.

Whatever, I always thought the “all-you-can-eat” music business model was faulty. it’s like being in a book of the month club, only when you fail to renew your subscription someone comes in and takes all your books that you “bought.” BS. I still buy CDs.
