Following in the wake of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated feature film that many consider the worst in the whole franchise (that’s including the Star Wars Holiday Special, mind you), beginning Friday October 3rd, Cartoon Network will premier Star Wars: The Clone Wars the animated series, which is not to be confused with Star Wars: Clone Wars the animated series. You’d think the brilliant, creative minds at LucasFilms could come up with, you know, a title that differentiates between the excellent 2003 animated series, the 2008 CGI critical flop movie, and the 2008 CGI television series… But I suppose that would be asking too much from a franchise whose latest output only serves to make their prior one look “not so bad” in retrospect. Perhaps I’m jumping to conclusions without actually having seen the new Cartoon Network series. However, while lacking in plot points, the 2003 series (which Lucas had virtually nothing to do with) was well done. Attempts to reserve judgment of the new series before actually seeing it are failing…and I can rant about blaming George Lucas for letting his ego manifest as his own Dark Side, but at least the stills look legit:

Here’s the Press release, with more info on new Cartoon Network series Ben 10: Alien Force and The Secret Saturdays after the jump.

STAR WARS™: THE CLONE WARS™ Premieres on Cartoon Network
Friday, October 3

An All-New Star Wars Adventure Comes to Television Every Friday Night
Available on Cartoon Network and Cartoon Network HD

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, the first weekly television series from Lucasfilm Animation, premieres on Cartoon Network Friday, October 3 at 9 p.m. (ET, PT) with a special one-hour presentation that anchors the Network’s all-new night of fantasy, action and adventure. New series The Secret Saturdays and the current hit Ben 10: Alien Force join STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS for a night of non-stop adventure, exciting storytelling and innovative animation.
In the signature style of Lucasfilm Animation, STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS chronicles the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Ahsoka Tano and other favorite STAR WARS characters as they struggle against the dark side during the divisive, action-packed Clone Wars. Each week, a new story in the galaxy-changing Clone Wars comes to center stage, brought to the screen by supervising director Dave Filoni and executive producer George Lucas.
Dwindling numbers of Jedi fight to maintain freedom and restore peace to the galaxy, using their army of genetically engineered clones against the seemingly never-ending droid army. The terrible conflict grows wider as our heroes are swept into the turmoil of war, while the evil Count Dooku, his assassin Asajj Ventress, their master Darth Sidious, the mechanical General Grievous and a rogue’s gallery of never-before-seen villains scheme to defeat them.

  • What Is The Montauk Monster

What exactly is the Montauk Monster? Your guess is as good as mine. The word on the street is that there’s an USDA-operated animal testing facility nearby. Dig deeper and find out that the Department of Homeland Security plays a role in the facility as well. Here’s a list of their research projects. Hopefully this will shed some light on just what exactly they’re doing over there and how they’re disposing the mutant carcasses…

Update 1: Fake. Damn I feel stupid. A viral marketing gimmick for some Cartoon Network show, Cryptids Are Real.

Update 2: Someone from Texas said it’s a waterlogged Nutria (read the comments below) and after Googling it, I’m convinced. Didn’t Dave Attell do an episode of Insomniac where he drunkenly hunted a bunch of Nutria? That’s sounds kind of cruel after you watch this happy little Nutria family:
