For Relaxing Times, Make It Suntory Time

Got in the mail today, a delightful package from the equally delightful people at Tullamore Dew, makers of one of the finer Irish Whiskeys around and one of the top shelf favorites over at Duffy’s (so you know it’s legit). Alongside a couple samplers of the Dew, and a few other spirits distributed by parent company Skyy Spirits LLC (as in the vodka), was perhaps one of my new favorite libations: the 18-year Suntory single-malt “Yamakazi.” Having had the pleasure of sampling a variety of quality aged whiskeys (as well as more than a few shitty, young whiskeys) I have to say, that Bill Murray was right, man. For relaxing times, you really should make it Suntory Time.

Now please excuse me while I responsibly enjoy my treasure chest of executive booze. I’m looking forward to trying the new Tullamore Dew 10-year Old coming this winter, information on which you can find after the fold…after all, there’s no such thing as “free booze”: (more…)

  • On July 4th, if you are in the movie theaters and you neglect to see the Hunter Thompson documentary, you are definitely BLOWING IT. The following trailer gives the impression that Gonzo: The Life and Times of Hunter S. Thompson is right on. The closest I’ve seen to a biopic on Gonzo is Where the Buffalo Roam, starring Bill Murray as Hunter. Nice performance, but I’m ready for the real McCoy. Anyone else?

From Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney and producer Graydon Carter comes a probing look into the uncanny life of national treasure and gonzo journalism inventor Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. A fast moving, wildly entertaining documentary with an iconic soundtrack, the film addresses the major touchstones in Thompson’s life—his intense and ill fated relationship with the Hell’s Angels, his near-successful bid for the office of sheriff in Aspen in 1970, the notorious story behind the landmark Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, his deep involvement in Senator George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign, and much more. Narrated by Johnny Depp.

  • In a move that strangely mirrors his character in Lost In Translation, Bill Murray’s wife has filed for divorce, claiming that his "travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons," physical abuse, and addiction to booze and weed has destroyed their marriage.

    From MSN:

Jennifer Butler Murray filed divorce papers May 12 in Charleston County. She owns a home on Sullivans Island, S.C., where she lives with the couple’s four children.

The couple signed a prenuptial agreement, which was filed as an exhibit with the divorce papers, before they married in 1997. As part of the agreement, both waived their right to alimony or support if the marriage broke up. However, Murray agreed to pay $7 million to his ex-wife within 60 days of a final divorce decree.

Seven million dollars? CHA-CHING! Now, like most people I think Bill Murray is a god, and while his marijuana and alcohol use gives him a few extra cool points, hitting his wife is CRED LOSS.

Unless she deserved it. For more information on Domestic Violence, please consult this site.
