Super Furry Animals VideoCast

A few short weeks ago VideoMatt and I drove down to San Francisco to interview and film Welsh experimental rock outfit the Super Furry Animals. And while the live video shoot was kinda a bust (our pre-planned three camera shoot last-minute reduced to one camera) we did end up chatting with SFA singer Gruff Rhys for a long time. Here’s the fruits of our labors. Their latest album, Hey Venus! is available now.

  • MARS Company: Making Life Less Sweet

All of Daniel’s animal death and destruction posts seem to be influencing me. It turns out that MARS, the company responsible for making M&Ms, Snickers, and other candies you can plant a razor blade into while high on meth the night before Halloween, has been testing on animals. Cute little animals. The ones that star in Disney animated features.

    From PETA2:

Mars has funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of paint. The mice had to find a platform to try to avoid drowning, only to be later killed and dissected. In another gruesome experiment supported by Mars, rats were fed cocoa and then sedated with carbon dioxide so that blood could be collected through a needle that punctured their hearts.

Wow. I never want to eat Mars products again.
WARNING: This video contains sensitive material that will make you stop eating Snickers bars, and possibly cry yourself to sleep.

  • Lyre Birds

David Attenborough’s piece on the Lyre bird is on some other. Friend of mine showed this clip to me this weekend and I was prety blown away. Even if you’ve seen this floating around on YouTube before, I’m certain you’ll want to see this again.

The Lyre bird mimics all the sounds in its environment. Even if its environment is being taken down by chainsaws.
