The lead singer of punk band Against Me! was arrested Monday night on a battery charge after he allegedly smashed a Tallahassee man’s head against the counter of a coffee shop, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Smith told police Gabel grabbed the back of his head by his neck and forced his head into the wooden counter.

A man came into the cafe, put Gabel in a headlock and headbutted him, Cook said. That man left soon after.

While Gabel admitted to police he purposely knocked over the cup, he denied hitting Smith.

Smith did not suffer any injuries, the report said. He told police he was more upset and scared than hurt.

Police arrested Gabel after the show was over, Cook said.

Gabel was taken to the Leon County Jail at midnight. He was released early this morning on $500 bail.

FUCK! Well, I wish Gabel the best, and hope that they can get this behind them and put on a great show here in lil’ olde Chico in September.

MTV.com recently covered Against Me! in their Bigger Than The Sound section. I’m currently within 10 feet of no less than 2 major publications that have the words “Against Me!” and “Best Album of the Year” on the cover. I saw 3 kids yesterday with the New Wave tiger on their shirt, and to top it off they’re playing in our cute lil town of Chico within a couple of months.

Its official: A.M! is probably going the way of Green Day, but with integrity. A couple of years ago I heard of them in the dorms and fell in love ( Pints of Guiness Makes You Stronger was the official drinking song on Tuesday nights). I guess you can say its a cycle, I stole them from a select group of punkers, and now America is stealing them from me. You know what? New Wave is my favorite of 2007 (sorry Circa), and these dudes rock hard. Raise your pints tonight and cheers a badass band.
