The fashion world is mourning the death of iconic Paris designer, Yves Saint Laurent. He defined how modern women dressed with his elegant styles. Saint Laurent died following a long-term illness at 71. He is said to be the last of a legendary generation of designers, including Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, who made Paris the fashion capital of the world.

Saint Laurent was named most influential and enduring designer of his time in the world of haute couture. He was also able to touch every part of the fashion industry with his iconic pieces and by delivering this high level of dress to the masses. He was recognized at the young age of 17 for a cocktail dress design. Saint Laurent then enrolled in school for a short period of time and was immediately hired by Dior. When Dior died, Saint Laurent was put in charge of the House of Dior at 21.

He empowered women and gave them confidence. He left his mark in the world of fashion forever and will be missed.

Film legend Brigitte Bardot was convicted in Paris, France today for racial hatred and provoking discrimination because she wrote that Muslims are responsible for destroying France. A French anti-racism group, MRAP,  filed a suit against Bardot for a letter she sent to Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy - who is now the president.  She explained her distress due to Muslim Aid el-Kebir Bardot who celebrated by slaughtering and eating sheep.

Bardot is an animal rights activist and feels she should be able to voice her opinion but French anti-racism laws do not allow discrimination on religious/racial grounds. She was ordered to pay $23,325 fine to the Paris court and $1,555 in damages to MRAP. Bardot’s lawyer said there is a possibility of appealing the case but Bardot has been convicted four times prior to this case for racial hatred.

Bardot will not be silenced in her defense of animal rights.

One of the most glaring flaws in the argument in favor of the existence of spirits, ghosts, etc, is that in the majority of sightings of full body apparition-type ghosts, the ghosts are wearing clothes. If ghosts are indeed the energy of soul of departed humans, why wouldn’t they just be naked? About.com’s Stephen Wagner posed this question to a few paranormal researcher, and got some pretty good, if somewhat vague, answers:

This could be a totally unconscious effect of the energy on the living person, or it could be a manipulation on the part of the spirit itself, perhaps causing the person to see what it wants them to. To understand this, I suggest that you close your eyes for a moment and then visualize yourself in your mind. How do you appear to yourself? Most likely, you were wearing clothing in your imagination. With the idea that a ghost appears looking in the same way that he sees himself, this might explain why so many ghosts that are seen are not only wearing clothing

As the Olympic Torch is scheduled to make its way through San Francisco on Wednesday, protestors are already gearing up for their message of peace and freedom for Tibet. Today, three people scaled the suspension cords of the Golden Gate bridge with huge banners that read, “One World. One Dream. Free Tibet.” Four others were arrested. Protestors in Paris caused such a disruption that they had to cancel part of the torch’s route. More are expected in the coming days as it passes through SF.

“We want it to be peaceful. But it will be large,” said Dasang, 22, during a phone interview in which he said he was near the bridge. “I heard from Tibetans that now live all over the U.S. and even abroad who are coming here.”

Be careful out there, brave protestors.

So reports say that Winona Ryder, actress, one-time sticky fingers and groupie extraordinarie may or may not be getting married to Rilo Kiley/ The Elected guitarist Blake Sennett.

Her reps are saying this ins’t true, but Ryder allegedly announced her engagement during the 2008 Valentino fashion show in Paris. Maybe she just got super excited/drunk on the most romantic city in the world. The pair originally met up during the filming of feature film Water Pill.

If nothing else, this episode adds to the litany of famous/semi-famous actors and musicians who have reportedly gotten down with the big brown beaver. This all star cast includes Johnny Depp (engaged for three years beginning in July 1990), Dave Pirner from Soul Asylum, Dave Grohl, Matt Damon, Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz, Helmet’s Page Hamilton, Ryan Adams and Conor Oberst. There’s probably several more. Yeah, whatever, you’d hit it too.
