Portugal. The Man Streams New Album

This band fucking rocks. Not only are they solid musicians and a great live act, but somehow they were kind enough to let us film them in a private acoustic session (see video). Now the boys are about to drop a new album on us, entitled Censored Colors, and they’ve decided to be super nice and stream the entire thing on their myspace. What do I think about it? Haven’t listened, but I’ll put some cold hard cash it’s better than Metallica’s Death Magnetic.

Here’s And I off the new CD.

  • …with a coffin inside of it! Death Magnetic is in stores September 12th.

After perusing what’s on their site, I can safely relay that the lyrics to “Cyanide” are pretty stupid. But after all, it wouldn’t be a Metallica record without juvenile lyrics. I can still imagine James Hetfield scribbling them on a 3-ring notebook with skulls and lightning bolts drawn in the margins. Rhodes scholar he ain’t…. All said, however, Death Magnetic seems to be a step in the right direction for a band who’s been off course for over a decade.

    Happy hunting, metalheads.

  • New Metallica Music Video

I’m not sure how I’m feeling about the new Metallica songs.  Sure, they’re lightyears beyond St. Anger, but thats besides the point.  If you’re eating a bad sandwich, and someone says it’s a ton better than eating shit, that’s not saying much… amiright?

2 positives are that Lars replaced that horrid sounding snare drum from St. Anger with something a little better, and that Hammett is back to playing screaming leads. Besides that, nothing too special. Oh, the video is long, drawn out and has something to do with war, but I got distracted at about 4 minutes deep… see if you can top my record.

  • Metallica have sucked fucking dick since …And Justice For All but maybe Rick Rubin told them to quit fucking whining, check out of rehab and start pounding enough Jaeger to help them write riffs in standard-E that still sound heavier than anything nu-metal ever fucked with. Doubtful? Yes. But nevertheless, there’s still hope.

Metallica have announced their tenth studio album, Death Magnetic, will be released globally on Friday, September 12th.

News about Death Magnetic has been flowing out of Metallica’s camp via the band’s official website (www.metallica.com) and a brand-new site, missionmetallica.com, which offers users a unique, ground-breaking look-in on the making of the album, with producer Rick Rubin. Fans who can’t wait for the September 12th release date will be able to purchase a digital-edition version of the album, to be delivered at midnight on release day, by joining the free site, which launched on May 29th. Missionmetallica.com features a treasure trove of exclusive content, including the low-down from the band members themselves about their progress in the studio via fly-on-the-wall video footage, live concerts downloads, exclusive new and never-before-seen archival photos from the studio, contests to fly to foreign lands to see the band perform and much much more.

Metallica are currently finishing up the mixing and mastering of Death Magnetic. The cover art and full-track-listing (below) have been posted at missionmetallica.com, where fans can purchase the album plus web content in various configurations. Users should continue to check the site for the chance to win tickets and meet-and-greet passes to Metallica’s live concert events this summer. Upcoming dates include headlining slots at Ozzfest on August 8th in Dallas, TX and at England’s Leeds and Reading festivals later this month.

Death Magnetic is Metallica’s first studio album since 2003’s multi-platinum St. Anger, which hit No. 1 in 30 countries and has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 100 million albums worldwide and playing to millions of fans the world over. They have garnered numerous awards and accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards. In addition, their 1991 album, Metallica, which has sold 15 million copies in the United States, has been awarded the prestigious “Diamond Award” from the Recording Industry Association of America, given to those albums with U.S. sales of 10 million or more.

The track-listing for Death Magnetic is as follows:

    “That Was Just Your Life”
    “The End of The Line”
    “Broken, Beat & Scarred”
    “The Day That Never Comes”
    “All Nightmare Long”
    “Cyanide”
    “The Unforgiven III”
    “The Judas Kiss”
    “Suicide & Redemption”
    “My Apocalypse”

  • Metallica’s Death Magnetic

Apparently Metallica’s forthcoming new Rick Rubin-produced full-length will be titled Death Magnetic:

Last week, a mysterious image popped up on Metallica’s Web site — an image that continued to morph over the next few days. It began June 9 with just two letters, D and C, in the middle of four sideways Metallica M’s arranged to look like magnetic rays. Each day, more letters were added. Because the band had promised it would soon divulge the title of its forthcoming album (due in stores this fall), several fans accurately surmised that the image would eventually reveal the LP’s name. Some guessed the title would be Magnetica. On Saturday, just before the band’s set at Bonnaroo, the image changed for the last time, providing fans with the answer they’d been waiting for. It seems that Metallica have named their next record Death Magnetic.

  • Metallica Still Hates The Internet

Metallica is notorious for having issues with the internet when they were successful in ending Napster. Metallica recently invited music journalists and bloggers to a private listening party of their new album. There were no disclosure agreements signed or even spoken of. The event was reported on a number of different blogs and the new tracks were discussed.

Metallica got angry and sent notices to all the blogs to take down the posts regarding the band or legal action would be taken. Bad idea to piss off bloggers who have a loud voice on the internet.
