So just when you thought New Jersey was the new utopia for gigantic, multi-day emo festivals, this year’s Hellfest has been cancelled at the last minute. A statement on the official site reads:
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Hellfest has been cancelled. After a full day in court in Burlington County, NJ, Hellfest was unable to meet unreasonable demands brought to Hellfest’s attention by the Sovereign Bank Arena on August 16, 2005 at 6:21 PM, and to be met by August 17, 2005 at 7:00 AM. Actions were taken and Hellfest had an injunction filed by noon on August 17, 2005, but was overruled by the judge.
We send our deepest apologies out to the fans and everyone who was involved with the event and want you to be aware that legal action is being taken.
But rumors on the internets are saying that there is more than meets the eye.

So everyone knows that Entourage as a show, sucks… If it weren’t for Jeremy Piven and Debbi Mazar, the should would be completely worthless… But I found this interesting story on The Movie Blog… and damn, Hollywood MUST be running out of ideas if they are going to TV shows for movie pitches…
Let’s try to get this cyclical loopfuck under control… Mark Wahlberg started his entertainment career as the badboy kid brother of NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg… He then went on to front his own hip-pop band, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch… Then he made under-buff guys self-conscious with his Calvin Klein underwear ads… Then he went on to make a few good/some bad movies… Then he went on to write a HBO pilot about his own life in the media and call it Entourage… Entourage, strangely, becomes a hit show, despite its awful story lines and non-verisimilitude… One plot involves James Cameron fictionally signing on board to direct the big screen adaptation of DC Comic’s Aquaman… The main character of the show, Vinnie Chase (again, based on Mark Wahlberg), gets the part… Meanwhile, in the real world, James Cameron decides that, “Hey, that’s not such a bad idea… Let’s adapt Aquaman.” And who does he cast? The real life “Vinnie Chase” - Mark Wahlberg.
Huh?

So Apple decided to unload 1,000 surplus iBooks in Richmond, VA today (story here) and over 5,500 people show up. People were trampled, strollers crushed, and people kicked… and even the people who GOT an iBook were complaining… What gives?
I went to a screening of the new movie, The Constant Gardener, starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Wiesz… and while it was long-winded, boring as all get-out, and so humorless it made Bob Saget seem like a genius, it was pretty damn thought-provoking and shined a light on something that may or may not be happening (human testing on tuberculosis meds in exchange for AIDS drugs in poverty-stricken Africa), but still, can’t a movie about conspiracy be exciting and well-paced without weighing it down with visual verisimilitude? Shaky cams… handhelds… digicam-feeling cinematography… an emptiness of character… it was all there… but what was missing was the heart. I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters… The only time I felt anything was hearing about one of the main characters who had his tongue cut out, his “manhood” cut off and shoved where his tongue should be, and crucified and nailed while still alive… Visceral and painful, it was the one time in the film when I said, “Awww, I feel for a character.” Otherwise, a threateningly long, overwrought movie…
So what does this have to do with the stampede for iBooks? Nothing. Nothing at all.
