Welcome to the first ever Synthesis Throwback. Today’s featured music group of yesterday is R&B / Hip-Hop group BLACKstreet. Remember them?
BLACKstreet started way back in 1992 by Teddy Riley. Their first self-titled album was alright with the singles “Booti Call” and “Before I Let You Go”, but their realest sh*t came from Another Level (1996) when they cranked out my favorite dance party anthem, “No Diggity” featuring Andre Rommell Young, better known as Dr. Dre. Take a trip down memory lane and watch the youtube vid.
Then put together an epic collaboration with “Girlfriend / Boyfriend” featuring Ja Rule, Eve, and Janet Jackson on their third and doomed album Finally (1999). BLACKstreet broke up later that year and then reunited with 2003’s Level II.
In 2006, they went on the New Jack Renunion Tour with Tony! Toni! Toné!, SWV, After 7 and Guy (Teddy’s original influence behind BLACKstreet). J-Styles replaced Chauncey Hannibal who decided the grass was greener on the Flipmode side with Busta Rhymes and began to start beef not just with Teddy, but Sisqo of all people as well. The latest in BLACKstreet news is that there will be a new album out on August 13 according to a press release from their manager, DJ Siren aka Sarve Jassal. Now you know.

I am now famous. Or rather, my apartment is. Or rather, some semi-famous dudes in the band Armor For Sleep stopped by my apartment to perform an acoustic set for Synthesis.net.
