You know that knee injury that appeared to dog Tiger Woods in his latest US Open victory? Apparently it’s for real. Woods is to undergo season ending surgery on his ACL, as well as rehabilitate a double stress fracture on his left tibia.
As much as I like Tiger Woods, I, just like most, was busy scoffing whenever he winced in pain after a bad shot this past weekend. Dramatic as it may have seemed, at least Woods does in fact have a real injury to complain about.

So take my 10-15 point prediction and stack a heap of whooping on top and you’ve got the result from Boston.
Los Angeles was downed 131-92 in the biggest clinching game mop-job in the history of the NBA Finals. Paul Pierce took home MVP, and the Celtics now hang their first banner since 1986. The parade will be held Thursday morning in Bean Town.

In about 30 minutes, Game 6 of the NBA Finals will be under way, and let me tell you, the Lakers are going down. Boston’s gonna win by 10-15, and Kobe’s going to have a long and lonely flight back to LA.

Oakland Raider wide receiver Javon Walker (formerly of the Denver Broncos) was released from a Las Vegas hospital Tuesday, a day after he was found unconscious, beaten and robbed in a street off the Vegas strip.
Walker had apparently been out and about at various nightclubs before the incident, and was carrying a large amount of cash and jewelry on him. Police are currently investigating, trying to “retrace” his steps. That’s kind of funny: People are beaten and robbed every single day in Las Vegas, but when you’re a professional athlete, the police actually try and retrace your steps.

At 3:15 AM this morning, the New York Mets fired manager Willie Randolph. The Mets are currently underachieving with a record of 34-35, though the firing may have had more to do with the team’s monumental collapse at the end of 2007’s regular season. The Mets have posted winning numbers in each of Randolph’s three complete seasons, but with a payroll of $138 million, Randolph has apparently come up short—at least in the eyes of general manager Omar Minaya.
My take: The Mets are a classic example of a team built too much around free agency, much like the Yankees. Bulking up their roster with big names on year to year basis, they lack the chemistry necessary to make a World Series drive.

It took five rounds of golf and 91 total holes, but Tiger Woods finally outlasted Rocco Mediate to grab the 2008 US Open.
Woods is now the owner of 14 major victories, rapidly approaching Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18. The tough luck runner up, Mediate, was vying for his first. Mediate took Woods all the way to a one hole playoff after the already additional round of 18 resulting from Sunday’s draw in score. Rocco Mediate would have become the oldest player to ever win a US Open.
