Someone will turn this true story into a blockbuster movie:
Using his wife’s kitchen pots and pans Mr Kanzius, 63, built a machine to direct radio waves at tumours, heating and killing them without damaging the surrounding tissue - something that opens up the possibility of cancer treatment with few or no side effects.
Now two teams of American cancer researchers have just shown that a refined version of Mr Kanzius’s machine can kill static tumours in mice and rabbits and they are working to find a way to hunt down cancers that spread through the body. They believe human trials could start within four years.

The father of Chaos Theory, Edward Lorenz, passed away at age 90 on Wednesday. The most widely known facet of chaos theory is known as the “butterfly effect.” The theory describes the behavior of certain nonlinear dynamical systems that may exhibit dynamics that are highly sensitive to initial conditions.
The phrase “butterfly effect” refers to the idea that a butterfly’s wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different.
On a side note, everything I just typed is from Wikipedia.

The Swinhoe’s soft-shell turtle was believed to be extinct; however, researchers from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo claimed they’ve found one of the rare, mythical beasts in northern Vietnam. The giant turtle is the only known specimen in the wild, though three others are in captivity — two in Chinese zoos and one that is cared for in a lake in downtown Hanoi.
“This is an incredibly important discovery because the Swinhoe’s soft-shell turtle is one of the most critically endangered species of turtle in the world,” said Doug Hendrie, the Vietnam-based coordinator of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo program. “This species has legendary status among the people of Vietnam, so this is perhaps an opportunity for the legend to live on.”
The creature’s cultural significance is a result of a Vietnamese legend that depicts a golden turtle that bestowed the people of Vietnam with a magical sword that helped them defeat Chinese invaders in the 16th century.
The wild Swinhoe’s is currently chilling in the lake where it was found, and the Vietnamese government has been notified about the discovery. The giant turtle can reach 3 feet in length and weigh in the neighborhood of 300 pounds. Though this is the only specimen known in the wild, it may still be a long time before the Swinhoe’s makes a graceful exit from the planet earth; the turtles can live up to 100 years.

But seriously Leo, not a day over 530…
Born April 15th, 1452 in theregion of Florence, Italy, Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, or Leo as his close friends called him, grew from the illegitimate son of a notary and a peasant into a legitimate baller. Apart from his famous paintings, he was the epitome of the Renaissance Man: inventor, engineer, sculptor, military architect, code-breaker, buggerer of boys, philosopher, master of topographical anatomy and internationally recognized genius. I could make a list of his radical inventions and plans, notes and journals that are still used today, but that’s why we have wikipedia.
And by the way, happy Pesach er’rybody.

According to the Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang, Kaja Bordevich Ballo, daughter of Norwegian Parliament member Olav Gunnar Ballo, reportedly took her own life [English translation] after scoring poorly on a Scientology personality test. There is some skepticism as to the validity of the report. The results of the test were time-stamped just hours before Ballo’s death, but this could merely be an excuse to cover up the real cause of death, given that Kaja comes from a politically motivated family.
As you may have heard, the personality test, also called the Oxford Capacity Analysis (OCA) or American Personality Analysis, is offered free by the Church of Scientology and comprises an integral part of their recruitment efforts. The test however, has been extensively criticized as it almost exclusively yields negative results. Here are some testimonials from people who have taken the test:
