EveryScape Beta

Well with gas prices being ridiculously high, I can pretty much kiss my vacation good-bye. That’s okay though, because I have the WORLD WIDE WEB at my service! Take that, airline luggage fees! Suck on it, price gougers! I DON’T EVEN NEED A CAR, FOOL! Cuz I can peep the world from Google Street View and now, EveryScape.com, where I can check out cities like Bejing, Beverly Hills, Washington DC, Krakow (Poland), Aspen, SF, Philadelphia, and more. And by more, I mean MOAR - you can actually go inside some of the buildings in these places and scope shit out! Earlier today I was in the Forbidden City and Snowmass Village, Colorado and I saw a lot of nice scenery and architecture. See what I did there? I took a vacation at my desk. For free. Reason number 98234758475 why I love the information super highway. Moar on EveryScape’s future and plans.

  • Winehouse Lays The Smack Down

If Canadian crackheads are too frail to harm anyone, British crackheads are bitch-slapping monsters. As we already know, don’t f*ck with Amy Winehouse.

Starbucks has plans to close around 600 stores that don’t perform to their standards. This will eliminate 12,000 full and part time employees. The store closures will happen at the end of the first half of the fiscal year; aka September 2009. Severence costs could be up to $348 million. Only 200 new U.S. stores are set to open in 2009. Better start digging out your best local coffee shops or switch to Peet’s. It might be nice not to see that green Starbucks symbol every block. Kick the expensive habit or get angry?

A new report in the online magazine PLos Medicine reveals that through surveys of Americans, 16.2 percent of Americans had tried cocaine at least once, and 42.4 percent had used marijuana, making us number one in the world for illegal drug use. This is in comparison to New Zealand, who came in a close second, where just 4.3 percent of study participants had used cocaine, and 41.9 percent marijuana.

In the Netherlands, where drug policy is more liberal than the United States, 1.9 percent of survey participants said they had used cocaine and 19.8 percent marijuana.

Twelve US 12 states including California permit medical use of marijuana, but possession and use remains prohibited under federal law.

And despite the US government’s massive anti-drug efforts, the United States remains the world’s top drug market, one amply supplied by South American cartels.

The US Drug Enforcement Agency has observed ever larger quantities of illegal drugs pouring into the country.

“We are seizing greater quantities of illegal drugs than ever before,” said a DEA statement last week.

In 2007, agents seized 41 metric tons of cocaine in just two raids, and denied drug traffickers record-breaking revenue of 3.5 billion dollars for the year, it said.

We may get our asses handed to us in every single sport at the Olympics this year, but goddamn it if we won’t give a shit ’cause we’ll all be too yay’d out and stoned. USA! USA!

  • 9/11 Hero Dog to be Cloned

A canine who was instrumental in sniffing out survivors in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center will be cloned. “Trakr” is now 15 years old, and is afflicted by a degenerative neurological disorder that has restricted the use of its back legs, and lives in Los Angeles with its owner, James Symington.

“Trakr means the world to me,” Symington said. “To know that part of him is going to live on is just beyond words. It’s the greatest gift I’ve ever received.”

In the next month, BioArts said it would transport a sample of Trakr’s DNA to the South Korean lab of its partner, the Sooam Biotech Research Foundation, and the clone could be ready by the end of this year.
