  • All four major labels cut CD shipments to Tower Records so that means that they’re either out of $$ or they’re trying to get better terms. What does that mean to you? No new releases on Tuesday at Tower.

Here’s another link to the UPI story that basically says the same stuff.

  • Sub Pop Goes Green

As if Sub Pop didn’t rule enough…

Seattle, Wash. (July 31, 2006) – Sub Pop Records, the music label that has given rise to bands ranging from Nirvana to The Shins, announced today that it has purchased enough Green-e certified Green Tags, also known as renewable energy credits, from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to equal 100 percent of the company’s energy use. To date, Sub Pop records is the first Green-e certified record label in the United States.

Â “I was made aware of the program by one of my co-workers. I was, quite frankly, shocked by how easy it is to support renewable energy. Green Tags are a simple way for anyone to choose wind energy, which, in turn, lowers dependence on burning fossil fuels for energy,” said Jonathan Poneman, president of Sub Pop Records. “Green Tags fulfill an important commitment to both the planet and the Pacific Northwest, where Sub Pop is rooted.”

Pretty neat, huh? Check out the somewhat spectacular and altogether humorous story of how this came to be here. There you will find a link to the full press release.

  • Go-Fessional

If there was some sort of pool as to what group from the Bay Area would blow up, I’d put my money on The Team. Hailing from Oakland, they got the talent and overall appeal that will cross over to other markets. Anyway if you want to be up on some “I told you so” shit, download Kaz Kyzah’s (1/3 of the group) new mixtape Go-Fessional here. That shit goooooooooooooooooooo.
