Saber, Mad Society

saber-mad-society

Since I like it when people send me free stuff, especially cool free stuff, I’d like to extend thanks to Boost Mobile who sent along a copy of Saber’s Mad Society, a book collecting the LA-based artists graffiti and more conventional oil paintings. Printed on slick paper, this 168-page soft-bound book is packed full of big colorful images.

Saber: Mad Society is a part of Boost Mobile’s Boosted Artist Content Collaboration, which also features MadSteez, Revok, Retna and Claw Money. Boosted, their “new directional lifestyle brand” (if someone out there works in marketing, I require a translation) will be on preview at the Spring 2008 MAGIC Trade Show in Vegas.

  • UPDATE! | Tuesday September 11th 2007

Conceit has won YouTube’s On The Rise Contest! The video is now featured on YouTube’s Homepage.

“The more you try to change the world, the more it changes you, since preschool, scissors and glue, something I knew was that this planet ain’t right, due to man’s destructive appetite the blizzard in my heart grows colder each daylight…”

    CONCEIT- Scissors & Glue

‘Beakdip’ got bored and decided to crash a bum’s sleep session with doses of Aerosol. As a One Hour Revealed first, Beakdip dives into digitally generated symmetrical graffiti and throws up some creative, out-of-this-world pieces. A simple digital effect is flawlessly executed, once again it’s time-elapsed, and a sweet track to top the cake. Miss it and miss out on life, so YOU watch NOW. (k?)

One Hour Revealed 13 should be next on your list.

  • R. Kelly, Genius

    3024_kellyr.jpg

There’s no doubting the genius of R. Kelly. I’m not trying to kid, though. I’m serious. Every time I hear “Ignition” is like the first time, and the version of the National Anthem he did a while back was one of the best I’ve ever heard.

I, like many, was both thrilled and confused by Kelly’s hip-hopera Trapped in the Closet. But I guess it’s not entirely for mortals to understand. The ending left us all a bit hanging, but fear not, Kells is a man of his word. Trapped in the Closet, chapters 13 through 22 will be available on DVD August 21st. Check out Kelly’s trailer for the video at Stereogum.

AUGUST 16. THE FILLMORE @ IRVING PLAZA. NEW YORK CITY
THE 2007 US AIR GUITAR FINALS
PRIMED TO BE THE BEST COMPETITION YOU’VE EVER SEEN

Above are just three of the competitors hoping to dethrone Hott Lixx Hulahan in this year’s US Air Guitar Championships, which will be held in New York City. The winner will move on to the World Championships in Finland, but unfortunately, the ol’ USofA holds a two-year losing streak in the event. If you’re in the New York City area, allow yourself a stiff dose of patriotism and cock rockery and get on down to Irving Plaza. Read the full press release, if you’re so inclined, after the jump. • Odaijini by Audrey Kawasaki

    odaijini by audrey kawasaki

About a year ago, I happened upon Audrey Kawasaki’s work while doing research for an interview on another talented LA artist Blaine Fontana. I’ve been a fan ever since. Today, I got my first print of her work in the mail (pictured above), and I’m pretty much stoked on life. You can check out more of her work here or if you’re the buddy-buddy type, look her up on MySpace.
