sword

Don’t get me wrong; I love Metallica… Well, at least I loved Metallica back in the day when they still wrote badass, heavy songs and Cliff Burton was alive, smoking bongs and living the storied life as the epitome of hessian bass players. But Metallica might be shooting themselves in the foot by allowing Austin Sabbath-suckers The Sword to open up most of their upcoming tour dates. The Sword owns. They will just DECIMATE the aged headliners with devil-tongued riffery.
I’ve had vaguely unpleasant dealings with The Sword themselves back when they were still touring in a sweet van, so I can only assume their increasing notoriety isn’t doing their personalities any good. But hey, they’re a metal band. A good one at that. I’m sick of meeting really, really nice sweetheart metal bands. They should be assholes. Any case, read Jake Sprecher’s interview with The Sword’s drummer Trivett Wingo HERE. Then check their video for “Careful With That Axe Eugene” “How Heavy This Axe” HERE.

HOW HEAVY THIS AXE: THE SWORD BATTLE WITH METALLICA THIS FALL/WINTER

Recently hailed by Metallica as “one of our favorite bands of the last few years” (source: http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=600769), THE SWORD continues to tour in support of its critically-acclaimed new album Gods of the Earth. This summer, THE SWORD showcased their high-powered live show loaded with mountaintop-friendly hooks, thunderous drumming and oceanic bass lines at both the 2008 Bonnaroo Music Festival and the OZZFEST one-day stadium spectacular, to wide-reaching acclamation. With its sophomore release Gods of the Earth, THE SWORD has firmly established itself as both one of metal and hard rock’s most electrifying new bands.
