Got in the mail today, a delightful package from the equally delightful people at Tullamore Dew, makers of one of the finer Irish Whiskeys around and one of the top shelf favorites over at Duffy’s (so you know it’s legit). Alongside a couple samplers of the Dew, and a few other spirits distributed by parent company Skyy Spirits LLC (as in the vodka), was perhaps one of my new favorite libations: the 18-year Suntory single-malt “Yamakazi.” Having had the pleasure of sampling a variety of quality aged whiskeys (as well as more than a few shitty, young whiskeys) I have to say, that Bill Murray was right, man. For relaxing times, you really should make it Suntory Time.
Now please excuse me while I responsibly enjoy my treasure chest of executive booze. I’m looking forward to trying the new Tullamore Dew 10-year Old coming this winter, information on which you can find after the fold…after all, there’s no such thing as “free booze”:
DUBLIN, IRELAND (June 2, 2008) — Tullamore Dew®, the distinctively smooth Irish whiskey, is proud to announce the addition of Tullamore Dew 10-Year-Old, a new bottling in limited release; 900 cases allotted for 2008.
Like the time-honored expressions – Tullamore Dew and Tullamore Dew 12-Year-Old – the new bottling is triple-distilled for balance and smoothness. Medium amber gold in color, the 10-Year-Old displays a fresh, malty and slightly woody nose with intriguing citrus notes. It derives its complex flavor of malt and spice, wood and vanilla from long aging in Spanish and American oak casks. Smooth and delicious on the palate with a refined and gentle finish, every sip evokes its pure Irish character. (SRP of the10-year-old is $35.00)
The Distinctive Taste of Ireland
One of Ireland’s finest and most widely distributed whiskeys, Tullamore Dew was first distilled in 1829 in the small town of Tullamore in County Offaly in the heart of Ireland. With Jameson owned by a French company, Pernod Ricard, and Bushmills owned by an English company, Diageo, Tullamore Dew is the last of the global Irish whiskey brands actually owned and managed by an Irish company. C&C International, based in Dublin, Ireland, takes great pride in the fact that the world’s number-two Irish whiskey brand, Tullamore Dew, is both actually and spiritually, a global, Irish-owned brand.
Unlike most whisky made in Scotland, it is distilled three times for maximum purity and smoothness. In addition, the barley used in Tullamore Dew is dried in closed kilns rather than over peat smoke to maintain its genuine, natural flavor – one of the defining characteristics of Tullamore Dew.
