The story starts like any other: one day there was a boring CD on my desk so I ignored it. On it was “Little Jackie” printed in black block letters, no CD art, nothing cool. I assumed it was another young wannabe rapper trying to act hard at 14. Blah blah blah. About a month later, I was perusing through the normal pop culture news outlets, taking note of new artists, talking with my internet buddies, and beginning to hear the name “Little Jackie” more and more. So I dug around my desk until I found it and popped it in. To my surprise, I fell in love right then and there at my desk. “I’ve heard this voice before…” but where and when, I could not pinpoint. I only felt the reminiscent angst of high school days and the sudden urge to call my best friend from 8th grade and catch up. What the hell? I thought. Voice recognition triggered my teenage hormones, “Little Jackie” can’t be new to the game. She is in fact Imani Coppola - black, empowering young woman from the late 90’s with that distant hit song, “Legend of a Cowgirl”:
Damn I loved that song! It’s great to have her back on the horse so to speak. Little Jackie is one half Imani Coppola, one half DJ Adam Pallin and their album, “The Stoop”, is pop-py with that old flavor of sassy that’s particularly apparent in the single “The World Should Revolve Around Me”. Favorite tracks include “Black Barbie”, “LOL”, and “Crying For The Queen”. Synthesis suggests you check her out on MySpace and make your Monday a little bit better.
