Last year was my final Rock the bells show. I swore to never return. All they care about it how much $$$ they can squeeze out of the people. Greed and corporate corruption has turned what once was a fresh hip hop show into a huge disappointment.

I did see a promo for another festival at the time. It was called the We the People Festival, I was a little nervous going to watts but that was one of the best shows I have ever been to. This years line-up is pretty sick so goodbye Rock the Bells..... We the People here I come! Rock the bells with a brain and conscience.

“the bottom line is the dollar sign” should have been the title of this concert. fans of the acts included paid their dues and ticket prices, but guerrilla union couldn’t even pay the respect of telling fans the real reason the show was cancelled. money. i have been looking forward to this show a while now.

three months ago i was diagnosed with cancer, and after a second major surgery, i have recently been told i am believed to be cancer free. all this has happened during the end of my junior year of high school. i will starting a year long interferon cancer treatment on june 23; to reduce the risk of the cancer’s return. interferon has many side effects that can vary, but the first month i am told, i wont want to do much. greatly limiting my summer. understandably i would like to do some fun stuff with my family before a year of being drugged up.

one of my four older brothers, a “de la” fan, bought me a ticket so i could go with him. i couldn’t sleep i was so excited to see all these artists who’s music i love, and that was thursday night. we would have driven to berkeley early saturday only to be dissappointed in person. however, my brother came over friday night to print out the tickets on our printer, because his ran out ink, and in a non descriptive e-mail we were told the concert was canceled “due to circumstances beyond our control”.

i was dissappointed to say the least. my brother was given a refund; that did not included the processing fee for three tickets. i am disappointed, because this was supposed to be about hip-hop but to the venue it was about ticket sales. i was planning on going to “rock the bells” as well, but i’m not sure i can trust these frodulent suckers twice with a much larger venue. a full refund won’t solve this; i already lost time i can’t be paid back. however, here’s what guerilla union should do. truth, integrity, and responsibility would be a start. the people who bought tickets to the canceled “paid dues” should be given free passes “rock the bells” or at least discounts for good faith. also free v.i.p. passes for some family, friends, and i would be def # 3 on the phone.

Peace, Love, Unity, and Havin’ Fun,
John
