All counties in California will now be able to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples starting on June 17, 2008. The Supreme Court has until they close on June 16 to make a final decision to grant the legalization of gay marriage. Typically the court’s ruling would go into effect 30 days after the grant was proposed but a group opposed to gay marriage wants the decision to wait. They want it to be reviewed again during the November election when the ballot would define a union between a man and a woman.

If this does pass it will overrule Supreme Court and create change. The new marriage licenses would include “Party A” and “Party B” rather than bride and groom to be more gender-neutral. Now we will just have to wait until June 16 for the final say.
