British paper The Independent has finally said what a lot of people are thinking, that America is facing it’s biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. I guess if you have to choose between the rest of the world hating us, and the rest of the world feeling sorry for us, the latter might be a little better. Just a little though:
We knew things were bad on Wall Street, but on Main Street it may be worse. Startling official statistics show that as a new economic recession stalks the United States, a record number of Americans will shortly be depending on food stamps just to feed themselves and their families.
Dismal projections by the Congressional Budget Office in Washington suggest that in the fiscal year starting in October, 28 million people in the US will be using government food stamps to buy essential groceries, the highest level since the food assistance programme was introduced in the 1960s.
All I have to say about that is: where can I sign up for some of that food stamp action? That shit isn’t even that bad now that they give you debit cards.

Acctualy no. I would prefer the whole world to hate us than feel sorry for us. (I would really not chose either… but if I had too….)
Also - I don’t think that they are feeling sorry for us, more like worried that they are going to be right behind us on the way to depression.
most of the world trade is still done in $.
the American market is one of the biggest importers and other economies are linked to the u.s dollar….
Very scary all over.
I’ve been saying for months this country is in a depression!! We are in one so our government needs to begin to be honest with it’s own people.
America is really owned by the Corporations and has been since Jimmy Carter took office at least!
Time for Americans to wake up and unite and tell Washington we are sick and tired of being poor. The Average American cannot even pay for gas to get to work, however the employers will not even keep up with the inflation so we can afford to get to work!!! But the CEOs get their Golden Parachutes still.
Grab your ankles and kiss your ass good-bye, it’s gonna be a bump ride…
