Seriously. Having to sit here all day and approve comments on the David Mortari post (of which there are almost 100) is making me feel physically ill. Shit like:
“I am posting this to give David Mortari That I live very close to where his Mother lives. If he lives there I will find him at some point and I will let him know what it is like to be defenseless”
“i hope this faggot gets thrown off the cliff and hear him scream for his life”

Like I said yesterday, funny that all these fucking people are coming out of the woodwork in defense of dogs, when millions of them each year are euthanized right here in our country for reason other than apathy and laziness. How about the thousands of other dogs used each year for Animal Testing for companies such as Iams? Or how about the dozens of countries who eat dogs as meat?
Or for Fur?
If you’re that pissed off about this video why don’t you do the following:
- Go to the Humane Society and adopt all the dogs, who will otherwise be euthanized.
- Go Vegetarian immediately.
- Vote Democrat.
- GTFO off the internet for a couple hours. Thanks!

You’re post is like trying to defend someone who robbed a bank because corporations supposedly “rob” people as well. It’s two different issues. What people here are commenting on is not primarily the humane treatment of animals (although that is very important), but rather the ghastly ease by which he threw the puppy, and the look of boredom on his face afterward. It’s the revelation that humans can be so pointlessly evil when nobody’s watching them that’s truly sickening.
I would feel so much better knowing if the puppy was later eating and turned into slippers. Then it’s culturally OK. Can anybody help?

I can understand what your saying Daniel, however the fact that he is a marine and misconduct unbecoming of a Marine is one of the main reasons why people are in an uproar. As well as the dog being only a puppy, this invokes the sense of it’s ‘inoccence’ and how it was defenceless. Though i support our troops, this guy’s actions are still freakin messed up to me. I only hope justice is swift and will deal with Mortari as is fit and as it’s supposed to.
I understand what you are saying about this kind of thing going on everyday. The difference is this:
The people who commit those atrocities are unnamed, faceless, and untouchable. This person has a face, name, and is supposed to be a symbol of America.
Don’t you think that it seems more satisfying to call the culprit on the phone or visit his house, rather than donate to PETA? What I’m saying is that this is one asshole, who is supposed to be representing our country, not some nation of dog eaters that we can’t really do anything about.
Besides the blatant cruelty, you also have to realize that this is proof to all the America haters in the world that we are “barbarians” or “infidels”. Just because you are a paid soldier, doesn’t mean you can act without honor. The USMC holds the value of honor very high, and this just shows people that Americans are brutal, and not human. In response to your post, I’m sure reading multiple irate emails isn’t the happiest way to spend your time. But don’t lose sight of the point of posting them: to let the media, the military and anyone who thinks this is funny and/or entertaining that this behavior indicates a serious problem and that the needless killing of anything shouldn’t be tolerated. Something needs to be done so, at the very least, the puppy didn’t die in vain.
Yes, of course other animals are killed every day all over the world, but those that are used for food aren’t killed for sport or amusement. They feed people.
The fur issue is terrible, of course. Animals are needlessly slaughtered so some millionaire has yet another way to keep warm. But Motari was the only one stupid enough to not only allow someone to tape his act, but then to post it on the Internet for the whole world to see.
Plus, there’s a gray area when it comes to what people perceive as the correct treatment of animals, because they’re “just animals.” If someone taped themselves beating a child, then posted it on YouTube, that person will no doubt be hunted down by police and arrested. The same protection isn’t always afforded to animals. So people are voicing their outrage to ensure something is done.
So keep up the posts—don’t let people forget!

When you do, if you can find it, you will see an islamic flag at the beginning. Yes, the video is real. The puppy was dead though. Really, deader than a doornail. Hmmmm, according to the premise presented in your post, it would be okay for me to commit a crime just as long as a similar crime has been committed by someone else? No, that isn’t how we determine what is right or wrong. You also reason that if I am concerned over one despicable act, it means that I have no outrage over other despicable acts? Before he took his MySpace page down, on March 5th, Motari wrote on his MySpace page “defending” his actions that soldiers develop a strange sense of humor - and he also wrote, initially at least, that he didn’t understand why killing the “stray” was a big deal, which was both a confession to the act and of his guilt. In writing those things he confessed to being the one in the tape, his motivations and his mental state, and his attitude toward the incident. (Later on, after his first “defense” failed to help him, he claimed that the pup was ill and his actions were “humane”. Yeah, sure.)
People aren’t outraged just because a puppy died. This act was outrageous because it was apparently done in order to be funny and he obviously found taking this innocent life to be humorous and then it was videotaped and placed online with the intent of entertaining others. That is what makes it disgusting and frightening that this individual carries a lethal weapon every day.
Anyone given the great responsibility of carrying lethal weaponry must necessarily posses compassion for the weak and the helpless - which this soldier clearly does not. The unfortunate events that lead to the euthanasia of strays, the taking of animal lives for medical research or food, the loss of human lives in warfare, those are all those things that have reasons that everyone the world over understands. Everyone the world over understands that there are complex reasons why death occurs, but to inflict pain in a casual and flippant way in an attempt to entertain is universally unforgivable.
That is the reason that the killing of this puppy draws such outrage! Not because a puppy is more important than anything else, but because the only reason this soldier took this innocent life was for his amusement. It sickens me that he thought that inflicting pain upon a helpless creature would entertain other people. And it heartens me just the tiniest bit that he was wrong.
I do not believe this individual represents the norm in the Marines, and the Marines needs to punish this man and make this punishment publicly known so that the world may witness that this behavior is not condoned.
He also needs psychological evaluation. I see that there is a strong possibility that this soldier is a sociopath and that he did not understand what the emotional effect of killing that puppy “for fun” would have upon the people all around the world. I believe that he didn’t understand because he seems to have expectated that it would have a positive effect (humor), rather than resulting in outrage. He must never be allowed to carry a gun again, nor must he ever be allowed to be in a position of power.

When an animal is euthanized or killed for meat, they are supposed to be killed quickly and painlessly.
That dog died in one of the most terrifying ways possible (except maybe burning alive or drowning). The cliff did not look that high, and it is certainly possible the dog survived the initial impact only to die a slow death.
If your pet was terminally ill and suffering so you took it to the vet to be euthenized, would you like him to scare the shit out of your pet before killing it? Would you want him to toss your pet of the roof of the building and just hope that it dies? Would you want him to make it into a joke?

there is a pretty big difference between the humane society euthanizing dogs which it has tried to find a home for, but does not have the resources to care for indefinately, and a US Marine, who is supposed to be helping to bring freedom and enlightenment to one of the most depraved and oppressed countries in the world, throwing a dog off a cliff. Shooting it in the head would have been a better way to go, given that the main defense of this action was that the dog was sick or starving and needed to be put out of its misery. But I guess the ammunition is just too important. The best part, and the part that makes it so inconcievable that there are people out there who would defend this guy, is that he laughs afterwards, which makes me pretty sure that this isn’t the first time hes done it. What a sicko.
Some people are saying that this is nothing because real people are dying overseas right now so why should we care about a little dog? Well, it is expected that when you have a war, especially a guerilla one like were in now, that mistakes and human life are going to be lost. We know that things can happen in the heat of battle that didn’t mean to happen, and that is the worst thing that can happen in war; but, this is worse.
THIS WAS NOT IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE. This was calculated and cruel and decadent. This is why people hate Americans around the world. That someone, especially a soldier, can walk up to something defenseless and kill it. Obviously, it does not need to be explained that the dog wasn’t a terrorist or hurting anybody. This was the act of a sick soldier who walked up to something defenseless and killed it for no reason other than his sick and twisted gratification, and the fact that a soldier can take satisfaction out of killing a baby dog scares a lot of people around the world and makes them hate Americans. After all, if he can do this to a dog that wasn’t hurting anyone that couldn’t fight back, what would he do to a human? Let alone a human who you can’t tell if they are the enemy or not.
This video is more than just someone killing an insignificant dog. This video sums everything up. This is the mighty picking on the weak that can’t fight back for no reason but its own gratification and it brings to life in its characters what the world sees the United States as. This is an American showing no value for, no appreciation for, and no respect for something that is defenseless and even loveable. Agree completely with OP. It’s funny that the people getting butthurt have no real substance. It’s not like he can take the dog back to camp with him. Motari even responded and said “We usually just shoot them. They’re starving animals on the side of road, we’re being humane to put them out of their misery, I was just feeling creative that day.”

The true phenomena here is not that a US soldier killed a dog (which happens every day in Iraq, any soldier can atest to that)- but that so many people are so incredibly disconnected from the world as to not only be so ignorant not to see that whether or not Motari was just in his actions, that there is no excuse for this kind of backlash against him. Let’s be realistic for just one minute… This was a stray dog found in the Iraqi desert… What do you think it’s likleyhood of survival actually was? There are no vets, vaccinations, medications, or accomidations for taking care of any kind of animal… Further more marines are not allowed to have dogs and are not expected to carry animals back to camp… On top of all of this stray animals carry deseases and parasites, the military orders them to be shot for the purposes of health and welfare…. Honestly if that is what gets him through the day in a potentially deadly region of the world, I say go for it…. The only reason anyone is “outraged” is because this made it to the internet… It’s a stray dying animal with no hope for survival sorry PETA sometimes those are the breaks….

Anyone who would show cruelty to a defenseless animal could probably do the same to a child. There is no way to defend this kind of behavior. He is a jerk for laughing and smiling as he killed that puppy. There is no excuse for behavior like that, or to film it. But his life is ruined, so he got what he deserved. :))
If the dog’s likely fate otherwise was to starve, the soldier did not harm it by killing it quickly. Maybe people are really more enraged by his cheerfulness about it. I don’t know what it is like to be there, but I imagine it requires toughmindedness and a steel stomach. This soldier served with his own life in danger, and it is sad that people are judging him a monster (let alone threatening his mother) over a dog’s life. We all harden ourselves and tune out suffering selectively to deal with reality. Even if his conduct was outrageous, it is no fallacy to urge that outrage be spent on something more important. That he was sent there in the first place is more outrageous than throwing a puppy off a cliff.
the reasons for us being there have nothing to do with what he did. quit trying to excuse what the guy did by blaming it on an unjust war or whatever else. i wouldnt throw ANYTHING off a cliff, and that dog looked fat and pudgy, hardly starving. enough with the hypothetical bs. any level-headed person wouldn’t do such a thing, and especially not while a buddy was filming it with a camera.
