Drummer Buddy Miles, who was 60, died at his Austin home as a result of congestive heart failure. Miles played with Jimi Hendrix in Band of Gypsys (with Hendrix’s old Army buddy) Bassist Billy Cox.

The Band of Gypsys live album drew from the final two of a four show run in 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City. Two of Miles’ own compositions, “We Gotta Live Together” and “Changes” were also on the record.

But the group broke up following a final performance at Madison Square Garden in January 1970. Miles worked with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Muddy Waters to David Bowie to Carlos Santana.

In a statement former bandmate Billy Cox described Miles as “an unsung musical genius and Jimi Hendrix no longer has to hold auditions as the right drummer has just flown in.”

  • Scott Spiezio Is A Tool

    spezio.jpg

St. Louis Cardinal Scott Spiezio — a former member of the Anaheim Angels and best best remembered for his 2002 game six home-run off San Francisco’s Felix Rodriguez — has once again found himself in trouble. Spezio apparently sped off in his BMW last December after a bout of vodka swilling at a Newport Beach bar. After cutting across traffic and crashing into a fence, Spiezio fled the scene on foot, eventually arriving at a friends apartment. Once there, Spiezio proceeded to vomit and attack his friend, leading to charges of aggravated assault. Today, upon hearing news of a warrant out for Spiezio’s arrest, the Cardinals promptly cut him. After missing considerable time due to substance abuse last season the decision was made with little outward remorse.

I for one say good riddance. Spiezio has always been a tool anyway. From his lame ass “metal” band Sand Frog, to his high-school looking dyed red flavor savor, I for one would not miss his presence at the big league level. I even met Spiezio once when I was a kid attending a spring training BBQ in 1997. Like a bunch of 12 year olds, we lined up for his autograph, being that he was one of a handful of ball players to attend the gathering. We didn’t even care that he stunk. When it was my turn for a signature, he looked at my basketball jersey and baggy shorts, and in a snide voice told me, “Pull your pants up.” Like I said, he’s a really cool guy.

  • Super Furry Animals VideoCast

A few short weeks ago VideoMatt and I drove down to San Francisco to interview and film Welsh experimental rock outfit the Super Furry Animals. And while the live video shoot was kinda a bust (our pre-planned three camera shoot last-minute reduced to one camera) we did end up chatting with SFA singer Gruff Rhys for a long time. Here’s the fruits of our labors. Their latest album, Hey Venus! is available now.

Though a Chicago court declared missing adventurer Steve Fossett officially dead a couple weeks back, there is, of course, another theory as to what happened after Fossett’s aircraft took off from Barron Hilton’s Flying M Ranch in Nevada of September of 2007: that he had found a path to the fourth dimension. Laugh if you want. But then take a night to read Hunt for the Skinwalker then think about it a little more. I mean, hey…who knows right?

    neverland.jpg

Looking for the perfect for entertaining your “young friends” in  lavish privacy? Well you may soon have a chance to bid on the property that set the standard for opulent molestation: Michael Jackson’s “fairy” (and I don’t use that word lightly) - tale fantasy playhouse, Neverland Ranch. It was announced today that unless Jackson can come up with the $25 million nut he owes on the property by March 19th, Neverland will be foreclosed and sold at auction:

Jackson has been formally apprised of the foreclosure and that legal documents have also been filed with the Santa Barbara County Recorder’s office. “You are in default of a deed of trust …,” Jackson was told in the five-page filing, according to a copy of the document published by FoxNews.com. “Unless you take action to protect your property it may be sold at a public sale.”

The property is 2,800 acres  in size and contains, among other things, a zoo and a theme park, with a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, zipper, spider, sea dragon, wave swinger, super slide, dragon wagon kiddie roller coaster and bumper cars. It is of course named after Neverland, the island in the story of Peter Pan where children never grow up. But if that’s not enough for your child rape needs. Here’s the best part: your only neighbor is, get this….Midland School, a college prep boarding school ! Granted 13-year-olds might be a little on the old side, but hey, like they say: shop local!

No word yet on when the auction would be held, but when it is, if Chris Hanson isn’t kicking it in Los Olivos filming a special episode of To Catch a Predator that week homeboy is tripping! Every CP head, smoothie hunter and pedobear afficianado from here to Singapore is gonna be bidding on that shit!!111

Britney Spears Pregnant With Third Baby?

Check out the cover of Star Magazine:

That’s right, folks. Britney Spears is presumably preggo again with her paparazzo boyfriend (husband?) Adnan Ghali as the baby’s daddy. (I read that they exchanged marriage vows in Rosarito Beach, Mexico a few weeks ago, but I’m not sure because he’s still technically married to Azlynn Berry.) If this is the case, no one should be surprised. I’m sure Adnan is celebrating with his Cristal thinking, “Man, I just won the lottery.” But I doubt it. America would be terribly disappointed in the judicial system if they gave the baby to Adnan and made Brit pay child support. Right? RIGHT, AMERICA?
