First honest thought: “Okay, it’s like Polyphonic Spree, without the vague creepiness.” Then I thought, ” Hmmm…. The Association, without the slick aloofness.” Then I just thought: “MY EARS. CAN’T TAKE IT!!! TOO HAPPY. DEATH! DEATH!”
Pacific Coast Band’s song, “Shine! Shine! Shine!” just about did me in. One can only take so much sunshine….and I’m a freaking Californian.

Listening further, I just want to smash somebody’s face in. Bandleader Patrick William Horn, who “studied literature at Harvard,” writes the kind of lyrical poofery that simply infuriates me - contrived rhyme that does nothing for me, expresses no original ideas, delivered with the kind of youth-group singing voice that makes me WANT SMASH.
Okay, their track “Full Moon Fever” has a kinda fun groove, I’ll give them that. But those lyrics….man. Studied literature at Harvard? Really. Despite their sunny exterior, Pacific Coast Band is pretty much bumming me out. And that is why I’ve chosen them as our Band of the Day. Better luck next time guys!
Check out their music HERE and let me know if I’m over-exaggerating.
