On Monday, HBO announced that it will start an online downloading service dubbed HBO on Broadband. The new service will launch on Tuesday for Time-Warner Cable high-speed Internet subscribers in Green Bay and Milwaukee, WI. According to HBO spokesperson Jeff Cusson, the service will be a free add-on for subscribers, working in much the same way as HBO on Demand. From Forbes.com:
While the company has not set a time line for rolling out its broadband service to the rest of its subscribers, HBO has said that it’s hoping the new venture will be as successful as HBO on Demand. Cusson noted that HBO on Demand helped the company reduce its service cancellation rates. HBO on Demand customers “found more satisfaction with their service so they kept it longer,” said the spokesperson. “As more viewing occurs on the broadband platform we want to make sure we provide that option to the HBO subscription.”
The network plans to make 600 titles available every month in addition to a live stream of what’s playing on the channel. HBO original programs will be available in their entirety monthly.
