Sigur Ros’ Heima looks like Radiohead’s Meeting People is Easy, only way less misanthropic; or Pink Floyd’s Live at Pompeii, only less stodgy and with even better backdrops.
The film chronicles Sigur Ros’ mostly unannounced 2006 Icelandic tour, where they set up instruments and played to the elves and trolls and shit. And it’s beautiful as all getup.
Concert films don’t really do it for me anymore (even the Sigur Ros concert film that I have seen previously wasn’t spellbinding), but after watching the trailer for Heima, man, I just want to go home, turn off the lights, dig into my book of Icelandic Folktales and smoke large quantities of opium. Dig? The DVD comes out 11/6, along with their album, Hvarf/Heim.
