The US an UK air forces have both announced increases in their numbers of MQ-9 Reapers, a series of flying, unmanned hunter-killer robots. The order will bump up the number of MQ-9s enlisted in the USAF from seven to 11, and a decision on full rate production will be made by the close of 2009. Here’s what these babies are packing:
The real-world flying HK is at least as deadly as the ones in the movies, able to lift a hefty 3,750 pounds of munitions. This can equate to 14 laser-guided Hellfire missiles, a smaller number of Paveway smartbombs, or GBU-38 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) with their own satnav/inertial guidance.

The MQ-9s boast an 86-foot wingspan and can fly for 14 hours without refueling and reach top speeds of 300mph. Why can’t all robots be as endearing as the QRIO?
