I just recently got back from a trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil courtesy of Red Bull for their annual BC Break Dance Competition. It was without question the most amazing experience of my life. You’ll have to buy the magazine to get the full story and pictures from the event (cameras weren’t allowed during the event), but follow the jump for flicks from everything else.
Hotel Unique, baaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllin.
View from hotel window
Os Gemenos mural off the freeway. If you don’t know Os Gemeos, do ya homework dunny!
To go with the event, there was an graffiti exhibition as well to highlight Brazil’s upcoming street artists. This particular piece is by Carlos Dias
Tinho
This was my unofficial tour guide, famed LA photographer B+. This flick is at an outdoor market, although it probably doesn’t it look like, we were there for the records. Again, if you’re not up on B+, wake up!
The day of the event it was pouring rain. That didn’t stop folks from coming out, in fact, hundreds of people waited 4 hours in a monsoon storm just to get in.
This dude is crazy. The whole event got delayed about an hour, that explains the empty seats.
After an hour and half of delays, they finally let folks in. These kids sat in front of me. The kid in the middle was shaking uncontrollably from being cold and wet. What you know about dedication? It was dope too, Hong 10 from South Korea won the battle, these dudes went off.
These are my homies from MTV Russia Yura Pashkov (he’s famous) and Angelika Borzova (she’s a base jumper). On the bus ride to the airport Yura got me wasted, taking pulls from a bottle of Rum.
This is DJ Nuts. DJ’d before the event and at the afterparty. He ended up giving me and some homies a ride back to the hotel at 7 AM after the club refused to call us cab.
On the last day we went to the Vai Vai Samba School, which is essentially a weekly block party where hunreds of people gather, play drums, dance and have a good time. No joke, this was one of the illest things I’ve witnessed in person. The energy was like nothing else.
Killing time before my 13 hour flight, found this huge park
The park is full of these spots.
I’m too beat for a full write up, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I’m amazed if you made it this far. Thanks. Now go drink a Red Bull.
